The 2nd Amendment
“A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.” These are the exact words of the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. These words may not much to liberal activists, but to Keith Richardson, these words mean exactly what they say. If “gun control” advocates want to carry the day, they should use the open and honest approach of attempting to repeal the Second Amendment.
This year, Governor Ed Rendell and Philadelphia lawmakers are backing measures to limit gun purchases. The proposed laws are the latest in a public policy campaign to restrict constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms. “Gun control” is often equated with crime control, but little evidence supports this assertion.
As congressman, Keith Richardson will support the following principles and values to respect the rights of law-abiding gun owners:
- Gun control measures are unconstitutional. 2nd Amendment rights are granted to individual citizens and cannot be restricted by states or municipalities.
- The 2nd Amendment is a self-defense and protection against government tyranny, not just a guarantee for the rights of hunters and sportsmen.
- The right to keep and bear arms is a cornerstone freedom, essential to maintaining other liberties.
