Fantastic Friday, Super Saturday
February 12, 2008
Friday night, I drove to Harrisburg for the Lincoln Day Dinner sponsored by the Republican Party of Pennsylvania. Political dinners are new to me, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I had an opportunity to meet a lot of new people, including candidates in other races who were able to offer some very helpful advice. I am still new to the world of politics, and I have a huge learning curve ahead of me, but I am a perpetual student and so I enjoy that kind of challenge.
I also got to meet some of my opponents. I found them cordial, even friendly. It was encouraging to me to solidify my view that they are my opponents in this race, but not my enemies.
Then it was time to get ready for Super Saturday. I arrived home at 1 a.m., and was up by 6 a.m. We gathered at campaign headquarters. I can’t tell you how humbling it was to watch one person after another arrive until twenty of us were crowded into the office area. These friends and supporters were willing to give an entire day, spread out from Franklin to State College, and go door to door on my behalf. What a team. What great friends. I was faced yet again with the reality of this campaign-it’s not about me.
I enjoyed being out in Punxsutawney. Many thanks to Randy for his invaluable help. He gave up his time, his gas, his energy and his birthday! Happy birthday, Randy. And thanks to all who made Super Saturday a super success.
