The Whirlwind
February 8, 2008
What a change of pace! Up until three weeks ago, I joked with friends that my life consisted of long periods of boredom interspersed with moments of sheer terror. Now I’m running at full throttle. It’s strangely exhilarating. I’m truly enjoying the experience. What I enjoy the most is meeting new friends and finding new supporters.
Last night, I met with another candidate, Richard Schall. It turns out that I had met him previously. His wife Mary was the Director for Big Brothers Big Sisters when I served on the board of that fine organization. Rich and Mary are wonderful, salt-of-the-earth people. We discovered in our meeting that we held a great deal in common. Today, Rich called me up to say that he had decided to withdraw from the race and help our campaign instead. I am humbled and gratified. His extensive knowledge of the timbering industry and his deep compassion for others will make him a very valuable asset to our team.
I’ve poured most of my energy for the last few days into the petition process. I’m knocking on doors to get signatures myself, and trying to recruit others to help. Remember, I have been a pastor, not a politician. I do not have the connections that others may have. So, if you can take part in “Super Saturday” and help us with this process, I would be so grateful. Just go to the “Join Our Grassroots Campaign,” and we’ll let you know how you can be part of this movement to restore the conservative values and visions we hold so dearly.
