A Time to Stand
February 6, 2008
My day began with an early breakfast with our team. I have to tell you, as I sat there with this group of gifted, energetic people, realizing that they were there to support my candidacy, I was reminded that this is not about me. I could never carry on this endeavor without an amazing network of support from everyday people who share a higher vision for our country. I was intensely aware that mine may be the face in the paper-but the voice is theirs. And so is the heart. This is a team that shares wants to return to principles over politics, a team that will not yield to the cynics who say that Washington can never be changed. How humbling to be the one carrying their message.
On this “Super Tuesday,” we mapped out a very important strategy for our own “Super Saturday.” We are going to mobilize as many people as possible to carry petitions and obtain signatures to place my name on the ballot. We will concentrate on areas that have not been visited so far. Won’t you join us? I know it’s asking a lot, but I am not hesitant to ask, because the cause is worthy. Think of it-with just one good day’s effort, you can be part of a movement that ultimately changes the way Washington does business.
As I considered the prospect of entering this race, I knew that it meant stepping out of everything that was familiar and safe to me. But I also knew that my background and experiences had prepared me to respond to this challenge. So I had to ask myself squarely this question-would I stand up or would I sit down? I knew I had to stand up. Now you can do the same. “Super Saturday” is a one day commitment. Will you stand with me?
